Flower power: crochet flowers #diyblogchallenge

This month’s DIY blog challenge was flower theme. I really struggled to come up with something, I found several ideas on Pinterest which I wanted to try but was finding it hard to locate the supplies (they all needed secondhand items and I just couldn’t find them!)

I thought I was going to have to pull out this month when I suddenly remembered I had started some crochet flowers months ago and never used them for anything.  Continue reading “Flower power: crochet flowers #diyblogchallenge”

Crochet fox scarf

My friend asked me if I could make her a particular fox character scarf:

I am not normally one to buy patterns, I am still a fairly new “hooker” and I am normally worried that I will find it too difficult and will waste my money. But in this case I took a risk since it was only $2.99 and all the reviews said “easy”.

Being in the uk the suggested Red Heart Super Saver yarn isn’t very available, so I purchased Stylecraft Special Aran in 1005 cream and 1711 spice. I used 1/2 ball of cream and only just under 2 of spice.

The head was pretty straight forward, although I think my counting went wrong and it’s slightly smaller than it should be.

Then the main scarf, which I stopped slightly before the instructions said to, I had a feeling I was going to run out of this colour and in the end it was very close and I think I would have done.

In the end I was 100% pleased with my foxy fellow and I hope it’s new owner will be just as pleased with it.

Crochet Christmas teacher gifts

I started learning to crochet a few years ago and have got pretty good at it. I have been making Christmas present gifts for my children’s teachers, I have a few teacher friends and they always tell me homemade gifts are greatly appreciated. So here is a few of my past makes:

Based on this pot design with hearts for the wings, circle eyes and a triangle nose.

I couldn’t find the pattern I used but there is a similar version here plus adding the wings etc as above.

Snow flake decorations

Tree shapes, star shapes and snowflakes as above, fixed onto a chain as bunting.

Some people don’t appreciate crocheted, or knitted gifts. The yarn maybe cheap but the time taken to make the gifts is what matters.
